Advancement

Advancement is how your character grows and improves. The more you use your skills, the more you develop, shaping your build and abilities as you become the hero you envision.

Sentius: Last Enclave is a level-less, class-less system, meaning progression is based on skill use and player choices, rather than predefined paths.

How You Advance

Every time you succeed at a skill, you mark a tick next to it.
At the end of each session, you evaluate your progress and make decisions about skills that have crossed a threshold.

Tick marks carry over from session to session.
Once you reach the required successes for a rank, additional tick marks no longer matter.

Skill Advancement Thresholds

Each skill rank requires a specific number of successes before it can advance:

Current Training LevelSuccesses Required
Untrained2 successes
Apprentice4 successes
Professional6 successes
Expert8 successes

Once a skill reaches the required number of success marks, you must decide how to apply your advancement.

Choices at Session End

When a skill accumulates enough tick marks, you have a few options for how to advance.

If the Skill is Below Its Maximum Potential

If the skill is below the maximum training level allowed by its associated abilities, it automatically increases by one rank, and you erase the tick marks.

If the Skill Has Reached Its Maximum Potential

If the skill is capped by its associated abilities, you must choose one of the following options:

1️⃣ Increase an Associated Ability

  • Raise one of the skill's associated abilities by one level.
  • This allows you to increase the skill the next time you accumulate enough tick marks.
  • This is allowed if the skill is at least Apprentice.

2️⃣ Save Skill Points for a Future Upgrade

  • Instead of immediately improving the skill, you can bank a skill point.
  • Once you accumulate two saved skill points, you may increase any one skill (up to its ability max).
  • This is allowed if the skill is at least Professional.

3️⃣ Save Ability Score Points for a Future Upgrade

  • Instead of improving a skill, you may bank an ability score point.
  • Once you accumulate two ability score points, you may increase any Primary Ability (not just the ones associated with the skill).
  • This is allowed if the skill is at least Professional.

4️⃣ Save a Trait Point for Hindrances or Traits

  • Instead of improving a skill or ability, you can bank a trait point.
  • Trait points allow you to remove hindrances or gain new traits.
  • This is allowed if the skill is at least Professional.

5️⃣ Learn a New Magic Word, Psychic Power, or Totem Aspect

  • If the skill in question is Magic, Psychic, or Totem-related, you may learn a new ability at Apprentice level.
  • This must match the type of skill you’re advancing (e.g., a Magic Word skill can only be used to learn another Magic Word).
  • This is allowed if the skill is at least Professional.
